Application case

Macrolex® dyes are soluble in organic solvents, such as aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, and chlorinated hydrocarbons. They are insoluble in water and dilute aqueous solutions of acetic acid or alcohol. Insolubility in water and alcohol is important for consumer products made from colored plastics, food packaging, and children's toys because dyes do not leep into the appropriate media. Any possible exposure to organic solvent-based printing inks and coatings must be checked for migration on a case-by-case basis. When coloring thermoplastics, Magolis dyes should be treated like organic pigments, where thorough mixing and dispersion coupled with high processing temperatures promote the dissolution of the dyes. When using dyes with low solubility and high melting point, such as Macrolex dye EG red, special care should be taken to mix and disperse thoroughly prior to the plasticizing stage. Some Lanxess dyes, such as Macrolex® Orange 3G, sublimate easily at high processing temperatures. They can be replaced by other dyes with better sublimation fastness, such as Macrolex® Red EG, Macrolex® Red E2G, and Macrolex® Orange R, Dyes such as Magolith yellow E2R are recommended for electronic components produced by polymer two-component molding. Lanxess Macrolex dyes comply with current regulations on dyes worldwide and can be used in: food packaging, food contact applications, children's toys made of plastics, etc. For plastic coloring, the key criteria for selecting colorant is thermal stability. The thermal stability and light resistance data in the table below are not physical constants and are intended as guidelines only. Specific data should be determined according to the actual substrate and concentration used.
